Corporate America is going thru a difficult phase
corporations must accomplish more with less
fewer people, often but not always more equipment
budgets are tight everywhere, with focus on profitability
shareholders are more critical now than ever before

discounters are at a disadvantage here, with costcutting
sales growth leads to exponentially growing clerical work
a gradual debilitation in job duties occurs
the most valuable discretionary projects are put off
the clerical work can never be put off
this is de-evolution occurring every day

my former colleagues are swamped with shitwork
they are frustrated not to work on enjoyable challenging creative and rewarding projects
false promises abound, beginning with job interviews, continuing with annual reviews, and ending with departures

I dont see any improvement
I see this among more than a dozen friends' careers
I refer to people outside my Staples and Digital arenas
my Digital friends are scattered to the four winds now

all my friends (except maybe 2-3) share this "devo" view
we all believe great changes have occurred since the late 1980's

I dont see any way out for all
