The confusion comes in when a dacs interfaces with an optical access loop. There are optical interfaces on both sides, so the dacs vendors call their equipment a sonet dacs. This confuses the analysts.

But if you've followed the new metro optical space (Chromatis, Astral Point, Alidian, etc.), you know that all those dacs units will soon be displaced by next generation optical switches. The replacement dynamics are very compelling.
