"but SONET and SDH --- where indeed ALA is a big player and to a lesser extant, ECIL is strong in this niche --- are not growing."
Bosco- I was not sure if you caught this, but NT appears to be the undisputed leader in SONET/SDH equipment sales. They own 26% of the market per Paul's just posted Yankee Group stats. And the RHK figure, from December, says the same thing.
Me being a, "here and now," type investor, I like it! I'm not quite sure why you say it's not growing? That's a difficult one to get a handle on because of the media's propensity to focus on bleeding edge technology. If you have any reports or stats about it's lack of growth, I would appreciate a url.
I have to say, I've missed NT's CCs. I listened to ALA's CC and they didn't break out SONET/SDH or give projections. I'm wondering if NT did? Those are exactly the signs I look for in evaluating where a equipment provider is positioned and heading. If you have any concrete figures from the last CC, I would appreciate them. Or if you have a link to the last CC, I'll listen and post details if given. I tried to find the replay, but I was unable to. _____________
Bosco and e-Bill- I understand that DCS is included for the RHK optical figures. I had a conversation about this on the CSCO thread already. I assumed that it was Alcatel's optical cross connects products the RHK report referred to. I don't believe Tellabs TITAN 5500 has a strong presence in this market. At least not today. But if I'm wrong, I certainly don't mind being corrected.
Reporters and analysts are going nuts writing and speaking about, "optical." Mainly focusing on the truly, all optical, mammoth, expensive switches that are on the drawing boards. But heck, optical is optical. Although it might be a little boring, optical cross-connects are a part of it all to. -MikeM(From Florida) |
