Last year, I forecast a bankruptcy for Iridium, but for a more basic reason. The high cost of the service reduced the prospective users to a small number. The established competition reduced that number even further. We could see no way that the debt would be serviced, (never mind see the original investment recouped), given such a tiny "best case" collection of possible subscribers.

There were technical problems, that is for certain, but did the business fail as a result of poorly designed components? I'm not sure the article's author is on solid turf on this assertion.
