Actually, in going back over the news wires, it's pretty clear that Bloomberg was making their best effort to 'create' a story. If you re-read paragraph three, paying attention to what is actually said from what is paraphrased, this is clear:

>>>
Alcatel, E-Tek's No. 1 customer, wants the acquisition delayed until it can find another source of components, said Alcatel USA Vice President of Product Strategy Paul Harrison. That process that could take as long as a year, he said. ``On some components there are no other suppliers,' Harrison said. ``We don't want to get into a situation where there's only a single supplier.'
<<<

I think Paul Harrison got his quote placed out-of-context, while Bloomberg filled in the rest of the picture. Follow that paragraph up with a nice "bode ill for the deal" from a token anti-trust lawyer, and you've got a story.

Or, at least something to trade on, if one were to be "in-the-know".

Trust no one ;-)
