Pat:

I'm not as familiar with what Rogers and Shaw are doing as you may be. What's your assessment as to what's going on with our MSO friends to the north and how it may impact CMTO fortunes, as well as TERN's?

See dailynews.yahoo.com

Granted, the article makes reference to their backbone, but I gotta think extending the fiber beyond the headend is in the works. In my assessment, I would expect both these MSO giants to move to an HFC platform going forward. So much for the "S-CDMA advantage."

Some snippets:

"As part of the new venture, Rogers will join an alliance announced this week by Shaw with 360networks, formerly Worldwide Fiber Inc., which will see Shaw invest US$100 million in the fiber-optic network company and acquire a national dark fiber network for $225 million.

"The pair will route much of their Internet traffic through the fiber optic network, giving them massive capacity to carry data.

"Canaccord's Dube said the investment by Rogers and Shaw in 360networks was ``a kind of protection' to ensure the fiber optics firm will have enough capacity to operate their networks and handle the traffic."
