RE: Dell won't offer RDRAM in super servers for months

I again got a call from Dell about their super server plans. At the end of April they are expecting to ship 750 MHz Pentium III Xeon processors (in an 8-way configuration) with the 200MHz DDR SDRAM (up to 16 GB).

Since there is so little difference between that server and the current 550 MHz Xeon with 100 MHz SDRAM, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy now rather than wait.

BUMMER.

According to these server guys, Dell has no plans to offer a super server product using RDRAM for the foreseeable future.

I know we're a small niche compared with the potential sales of Willamette, but we're willing to pay the high prices now for this technology.

I also know it's not Dell's fault, really this is controlled by Intel.

BTW: did I say no resistance until $400?
Looks today like some resistance at the $350 level.

You all be careful out there.
