DigitalMe Divide....
>>IMHO - the reason digitalme has washed into the background light is that there is no "community" platform for digitalme to "plug" into. There are two-sides to the community - the membership and the "communal" services they share. These services NEED hardware and software to function :) So that means there needs to be some server software developed.>>
Peter:
Excellent!!
The two sides are:
1) ME
2) The various community platforms that "come to" or "tie into"...ME.
DigitalMe is like a great car on cinderblocks with no road to travel on. Novell's entire future rests with the growth and development of communities.
NOT companies.
Sure, there will be companies that try to build "community" but just look around at how much energy they are putting into this: www.participate.com is one of many community outsourcing middlemen that does this for companies.
For they still "don't get it."
It's going to take an community-oriented, individually empowered world to create these new virtual roads between and among a vast a growing array of communities that will define this New Age we've just begun to enter.
Communities represent an more open, yet private, personal, secure, space beyond one-way portals or destinations. The world still needs to build these virtual intelligent community roads and streets which will help us leverage the process of informing, educating, directing, empowering and serving others.
Communities will be defined and powered by individuals who step into the world with the spirit of service.
I told a few people today that the entire world of how we interact with products and services will rapidly and massively migrate to the restaurant model.
We only go back to restaurants that give us good food and good service.
Companies as we know them will be relegate to the role of coming to us through these communities - begging us just for the opportunity to serve us.
Individuals will occupy and control these New World stages which will be more akin to more open version of the service energy found inside non-profits.
My guess is that more and more companies will morph into looking more and more like the current version of non-profits while individuals will migrate their service time and energies to more focused, individuallly targeted and preferenced/leveraged service efforts.
For the New World stage will be composed completely of service energies. Either you are helping and serving others - and therefore growing - or you are off this platform/stage and dying.
For money will end up being a strawman.
Companies will be relegated to providing publicity, opening the curtains, cleaning up, providing the props, instruments, food, makeup and other things for this continuous service show of life and energy.
Each community will have a different act, story, purpose, cast, music, energy, etc.
Novell needs to map their entire future to this New model of openness, energy and SERVICE.
How are we doing Paul??
Peace.
