RAMP is ramping up...:
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- President Clinton's week-long journey to India comes as foreign companies increase investment in India's emerging Internet technology sector and highlights Silicon Valley's growing interest in the region. Santa Clara-based Ramp Networks, Inc. RAMP is viewed as a model for conducting business between India and the United States. Ramp President and CEO Mahesh Veerina is expected to be recognized in the address given by the President in Hyderabad as an innovator in U.S. and India technology cooperation. Veerina, who has been an active participant in President Clinton's visit, said that Ramp will significantly increase its interests in India in the coming year to help prepare India's small businesses to compete in the global Internet economy.

Ramp is expected to double its staff to 100 at its Hyderabad, India software production facility. It also will expand its partnerships with India's leading ISPs, such as Satyam Infoway INFY , to further benefit from vast Internet growth in the region. Ramp is a leading worldwide provider of high-speed Internet access solutions for small businesses and its award-winning WebRamp routers are sold in 55 countries.

"The relationship between the U.S. and India has incredible potential," said Veerina, a native of India. "President Clinton's visit affirms India's major contributions to Internet technology research and development. Further growth in India's technology sector will foster a stronger, more stable and mutually beneficial business partnership between the U.S. and India, the world's two largest democracies."

President Clinton is expected to tout India's technology industry as a model of success. During President Clinton's visit to Hyderabad this Friday, known by locals as "Cyberabad," scheduled events are expected to include speeches by the President and the provincial Chief Minister.

According to the U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC), India's total software and services exports are likely to grow thirty times in the next decade from $2.8 billion to $87 billion. "Companies like Ramp Networks, whose facilities here in India represent a model for technology partnerships, are leading bilateral business growth and investment success in both countries," said Michael Clark, Executive Director of the USIBC.
