Am I the only one that understands this concept of state's rights?

Please! Someone tell me that they understand what I am saying.

I never suggested that each state should establish their own army, navy and air force. I simply said that each state should have the ability to tax to support a federal military. Why must this be done on a federal level? The important difference here is that each state's taxes stay in that state. This does not mean that each state should act independent of each other. Remember our country's name - United States. We are a collection of states united together to form one country. Otherwise we would be called the United Socialist Republic of America. (USRA?)

>And who'd be in charge in the case of an actual military threat
>to the nation?

Who's in charge now? Why does this have to change? We can still have leaders that control the military as we do today, but they should be from local divisions of our nations military. I'm not suggesting that we change the structure of our military. I'm just saying it does not have to be controled by bureaucrats in Washington.

>The only people who'd win in this situtation would be arms dealers,
>uniform salesmen, and bureaucrats.

I see, because we know that arms dealers and bureaucrats simply don't exsist today because of the utopian society that our Federal Government allows us to have. It is a simple fact that the largest arms dealers in the world are in the United States today. Remember the Persian Gulf war? The united states military was fighting against it's own weapons in many cases. (Air defense systems to name just one) Please explain why you think that a "Federal" system prevents such corruption.

Please stop and think about what you are suggesting. We must not give up our liberty's so easily to anyone simply because thats the way they want it. The states DO have rights, but these rights have given way to judicial rulings that make states rights take a back seat to our Federal Government's wishes. What ever happened to the legislative branch of Government anyway? I recall voting for a local representitive many years ago. Maybe the Judicial branch ruled representation unconstitutional.
