Taiwan Hot Stk: Mosel Up 4.9%, Higher DRAM Demand Seen
TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--Shares in Mosel Vitelic Inc. (Q.MVT) are sharply higher Friday amid expectations the chipmaker will post stronger earnings this year given the current strength of the global semiconductor industry, dealers said.
Analysts forecast that demand for dynamic random access memory chips will outstrip supply during the second half of 2000.
At 0155 GMT, shares in Mosel were up NT$3.50 (US$1=NT$30.656), or 4.9%, at NT$75.50 on volume of 165.3 million shares.

Memory chipmakers may gain as some investors bet prices of chips may rebound after they declined 42 percent so far this year. Prices for 64-megabit dynamic random-access memory chips were unchanged at $5.25 yesterday, according to the American Integrated Circuit Exchange. Mosel Vitelic Inc. (2342 TT , rose NT$4.5, or 6.7 percent to NT$68.5. Winbond Electronics Corp. (2344 TT , rose NT$5.5, or 6.7 percent, to NT$88. Powerchip Semiconductor Corp.
