America Online in Ventures With Pacific Electric, CDB, EDN Says

Taipei, March 24 (Bloomberg) -- America Online Inc. agreed
to a series of alliances with Pacific Electric Wire & Cable Co., China Development Bank and affiliated companies including Taiwan Cellular Corp. to help boost its Asian Internet-related businesses, the Economic Daily News reported, citing Lu Ai-chun, president of a U.S. unit of Pacific Electric. Separately, AOL is also in talks about an alliance involving China Development, Accton Technology Corp., D-Link Corp. and Chunghwa Telecom Co. on possible joint ventures including Internet security products.
The China Development Internet alliances will also involve Japan's Softbank Corp., the paper said.
Taiwan Cellular, a unit of Pacific Electric, is Taiwan's
No. 2 mobile phone service provider, while CDB is the island's
biggest venture capital company. |
