I agree with you, and mentioned, in something I just posted to Rambi, that most people would not mind the sight in context, say, if it were their relatives in privacy. The question is less one of legislating standards, though, than being willing to acknowledge that informal standards exist. Although they may change, it is not the duty of the law to hasten the process, except in egregious circumstances, as when trying to combat racial subordination. Rather, the law takes them into account, and tries to find the least expensive way of resolving conflict. Few restaurants want to offend or lose nursing customers, either, but it makes sense that the restaurant be able to impose some sort of resolution if a conflict arises, and count on the beat cop to back up the decision if it came to that. Presumably the restaurant and cop want the least hassle possible, and will seek a compromise......... |
