Yes, and Wolfe is as good or better a writer, both as an essayist, and as a novelist.......I haven't read all their books, of course, but Mailer is best in "Armies of the Night", an account of the March on the Pentagon that requires some concern for reality. For Updike, I almost liked "Roger's Version", and his art reviews in the New Republic are sometimes okay.......
