Move to the Virginia Piedmont, say outside of Charlottesville. Beautiful landscape, 1/2 an hour from the mountains, nearby rivers and lakes, 90 minutes or so to the Chesapeake, 3 hours or so to the ocean. Monticello, UVA, Washington a couple of hours north, Richmond less than 2 hours south. History comes alive!
