STAR to Introduce Additional Services This Year
"More than 80 million cardholders now carry a card that participates in the STAR Network," Congemi added. "We work every day to provide consumers with reliable, safe, and innovative ways to connect with their financial institutions and merchants coast-to-coast." Speaking on the first anniversary of the March 1, 1999, merger, Congemi said STAR is moving rapidly on new services, including secure Internet ATM/debit card payments and check conversion programs that will provide the advantages of POS payment for consumers who use traditional paper checks or other forms of payments. In conjunction with its anniversary and as part of its continuing efforts to better serve its customers in the financial community, STAR said it is planning a series of white papers, including an examination of privacy issues for release later this month. Headquartered in Maitland, FL, with offices in San Diego, CA; Columbia, SC; Reston, VA; and St. Louis, MO., STAR is the largest EFT network in the United States. The STAR Network includes 3,400 financial institutions, 115,000 participating ATMs and 400,000 POS locations at the endof 1999.
