MSFT and Reality: -
In the exuberance, mine included, over possible settlement terms, it should be remembered that the government basically has MSFT by the b*lls, and is unlikely to cut them a lot of slack. On the other hand, popular sentiment is against a destructive settlement that significantly impairs one of America's greatest companies. It is being reported that MSFT has offered to separate the browser from windows, open up the code for windows to allow box makers to modify how the OS works on their system, and to stabilize windows pricing so as eliminate predatory pricing.
While these seem relatively fair, and the browser issue seemed to be at the heart of Govt's case (at least initially), it would be wise to remember that in the 1960s i believe IBM agreed to terms from the Govt that significantly hampered its growth for many years.
While it does seem that MSFT's stock price has been hampered by this litigation, the remedies might be significantly severe as to continue to put pressure on the stock. Neither the Govt nor MSFT will "win". Its like a divorce: whoever loses least is the winner, I guess. But Ron, DON"T SELL YOUR MSFT !!!!!!!! larry
