get back to me in 18 months about Cisco AFTER fiberoptic begins to dominate, Cisco is a bitplayer, and Nortel takes huge business from them

are you aware that Cisco is putting its Cerent squarely as the foundation for its fiberoptic networking business?

and Cerent is based upon SONET (1990's technology)
not only is Cisco missing out on Dense Wave Multiplexing, but its bandwidth will be a joke among the fiberoptic fastlanes

Gilder makes excellent points about old success being an extreme liability for transition into the next arena... Cisco is 98% packetswitching now, and its fiberoptic is a joke... as DWDM enjoys the next transition, watch Cisco fade slowly... Cisco now enjoys huge success with the internet infrastructure buildout, which is exactly why it will be a bitplayer in three years in the growth areas

what is Cisco's plan for making the future transition out of packet switching in your opinion?
