Roche is simply a partner due to the Syntex acquisition. It was Syntex the had the initial contacts with Alanex and Agouron. Keeping in mind the poison pill, I would love to be able to buy Roche at a 50% discount. As to the others, chiron is (deleted), unfortunately it is still the best bet.
