Chris

if you wake up in the morning...would you like to have the days agenda set by you...or by someone else?

In some sense the day's agenda is being set by you because you have chosen to continue working even if you are able not to.

I am sure I could live on $100K too...but I think it is more than I need to live my lifestyle (and I have no debts of any kind). My approach to figure critical mass has been to determine my living expenses, the work it backwards to determine what critical mass will support those expenses.

My lifestyle is pretty basic probably because I did not have much growing up and therefore feel no need to have significantly more now. The difference between my parent's live's and mine is that I have much more money than they did and have more options as a result. I suppose money for me is a way of keeping score. I too can live on 100k or less and is it is also more than I need to live my lifestyle but at the same time yielding more annually creates a more secure buffer.

but the flip side of this...is you do not feel the drive...the need to compete...and do your best. Don't you think

Excellent point. I often ask myself the very same questions you have posed here with no clear answers. My drive for certain goals has been not been diminished but perhaps has changed. Many of my goals have been met and other goals I thought were worthwhile I have changed my ideas about; I have realized some goals are not worth pursuing. The need to compete and do my best is still there. I am and would surmise all on this thread are very competitive and strive to do their best. We are all competing and striving to make as much money as we can while it is there to be made. We all seem to be working hard devoting many hours to analyzing and investing and we all try our best to come up with our best investment ideas.

The best description I can give about myself in critical mass is that I find myself working more hours than ever even though there is less of a need and I have become much more focused on those issues and items that matter; those I have a passion for.
