"In some sense the day's agenda is being set by you because you have chosen to continue working even if you are able not to."

True...but I do not like the lack of flexibility. I would like to be able to decide...that maybe I would rather not go in today...or maybe I would like to take off for a couple weeks...or whatever... and I obviously mean outside the bounds of vacation policy. Also, sure would be nice to have CNBC on all day!

"The need to compete and do my best is still there. I am and would surmise all on this thread are very competitive and strive to do their best. We are all competing and striving to make as much money as we can while it is there to be made. We all seem to be working hard devoting many hours to analyzing and investing and we all try our best to come up with our best investment ideas."

I apologize for not being clear on this point. What I mean is...as one approaches critical mass... investment returns may be much higher than salary, one may spend (appropriately I think) more discretionary time managing investments than on the job. Earlier on in my career, I would spend tremendous hours at work...sometimes weekends...sometimes all nighters... Now...it just seems more appropriate to spend discretionary time studying and managing investments. And...in this context, can one really do their best work ON THE JOB?

"I too can live on 100k or less and is it is also more than I need to live my lifestyle but at the same time yielding more annually creates a more secure buffer."

Agree --> just trying to figure out how much of a buffer I need...You can take it to an extreme...market could tank...inflation could skyrocket...health care costs could go to the moon...etc. etc. etc. Several have mentioned limiting withdrawels to 4% to 6% of assets...and this would tend to be self regulating...as spending would be scaled to assets...makes a lot of sense to me.

Thanks for the comments.
