Bob: Another side effect, musicians do not produce songs because there is no money in it, because people are copying them illegally.

Bob, I have musicians working for me for $10 per hour on a construction site. That's what they do for money. They don't make money doing music, nor is that what motivates them, in general.

Hell, if it was only money motivating Tony, I doubt he'd have the site.

One thing I look forward to is eliminating much of the overhead in books and records. The content can be digitized - as opposed to take-out from a Chinese restaurant - and we don't need physical manufacture and distribution, which was the original need that publishing filled, along with editing and marketing.

Seems like the artists could get the same money - about $1 per CD - and the customers could pay about $2 per CD. I feel the same way about that electronic book company we shorted a while back - it is the future because it's the useful technology.

Exactly who will emerge predominant and how remains to be seen, but publishers in general may decline in importance.

Peter
