Rambus news:

ebns.com
Hitachi Ltd. today charged Rambus Inc. with violating the Sherman Antitrust Act by engaging in what Hitachi claims is an exclusionary patent policy and a campaign to intimidate semiconductor makers and their OEM customers.

Hitachi filed its counteraction in a Wilmington, Del., federal court, asking that Rambus patents relating to semiconductor synchronous timing techniques be thrown out. The company said the patents cover prior inventions and further alleged that Rambus has usurped technical details it picked up while participating in open industry standards meetings held by JEDEC.

This has always been one of the big risks with Rambus, some of their key patents are clearly susceptible to prior art claims. By pushing too hard, they risk losing everything. Be interesting to see what happens to the stock on Monday.
