Captain: Unless any shortfall is huge - COMPAQ could still meet the nominal earnings estimate by selling just enough of its investment portfolio. But Wall Street would discount earnings from such sources.

However, given that such revenues are genuine and can be included as earnings, I would think that any warning would be be quite specific and relate to operational revenues or margins.
