It seems the gov't has given up on a break up. Probably wouldn't hold up to Supreme Court review. Since TPJ won't break them up, the big prize is off the table. Now it's "nickel and dime" restrictions/fines, etc. Gov't would be better off settling now than dragging it into the election (where Al Gore will have to wear this like a boat anchor) and run the risk of an IBM type resolution (case dropped). IMHO both sides are better off settling -- the gov't made its points (MSFT is a bully) and MSFT can get on with transforming itself into a Net player (while having to live with restrictions that any good lawyer can find a way around.) My 2 cents.
