Explosion, not consolidation

"Storage on demand" means customers can consume storage at a rate commensurate with their ability to gather data rather than their ability to manage its installation, care, and feeding. This is an accelerant for EMC, not an inhibitor.

Storage and bandwidth are two sides of the same coin. The more bandwidth you have the more data you can gather and store and the more storage you have the more bandwidth you need to transmit it. Bandwidth is "information in motion", storage is "information at rest". These two trends are the ultimate "picks and shovels" opportunity in the new economy. No matter who wins or loses you can be sure that demand for bandwidth and storage is only going to go up dramatically in the years ahead.
