Since I'm long the stock, I e-mailed my cousin, who is a trader and attorney, to ask his opinion. I got the idea a month or so ago that it was silly of them to settle now. Why not wait and see if they can deal with a Bush Justice Department, which might be easier to deal with. Who knows what happens now? Maybe MSFT floated these rumors, knowing the stock would pop and put pressure on the administration not to piss of holders with a big drop if no settlement. Having read the first part of the decision--the finding of fact--I have little doubt that this judge will ream them. Of course, that's only the first chapter in what could be a lengthy process. Guess what it comes down to is how much are you willing to risk on a coin toss? It's not impossible that it could sell off on profit-taking even if there's a settlement.<<
