My son's Little League Allstar Team when he was eleven was the biggest high I ever had.
they won Districts, Sectionals, got to the State Championship came in second out of 364 teams.
He hit like .700 that series. The next summer he played in a world Series tournament in the City of Miami against 12 year old taems from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Honduras etc. Most of the out of country players looked 15 to 18. The Miami team also came in second Adam hit .840 won Batting and Homeruns title. We then went to Nebraska and played in the Field of Dreams ABA tournament. We played on the cornfield they made the movie on. The farmer sells souvenirs makes $200K a year you hit into the cornfield looking for ghosts to come out like Shoeless Joe Jackson. He won batting title there. man I though this kid was going to the majors. High school coaches were recruiting him to public and private schools.
He then played for four years never got to the next level.
The high school coaches changed his swing, he got too slow, couldn't hit the curveball, discovered girls, yada yada yada.
Alays told me I should have let him be a catcher. He played outfield would throw kids out from 220 feet when he was 11. hit the ball into the night.
It was a great summer when he was eleven and twelve for both of us, probably better for me. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.
