Daskin:
I have been to Universal Display and got the dog and pony show how they make samples of their transparent organic light emitting display TOLED. Besides TOLED, PANL's University researchers patented the idea of a flexible OLED. Since PANL is the exclusive licensee of the University professors who actually have patents rights, PANL are not going to make much of any product only issuing a sub license to make products using patented technology.
EMA, to be honest I haven't looked at the previous work of FED Corp and Virtual Vision. I only way I knew that EMA was in display technology business was from location of their facilities in Hopewell Valley, NY when I did weekly keyword search on display and OLED companies. That town rang a bell with me in earlier patent searches on OLEDs on the web when I was primarily interested in PANL's IP portfolio.
I am trying to get to speed with EMA as well as trying to keep up with Luxell, Westaim's Ifire, Microvision, Three Five Systems and indirectly CREE. It is a lot to chew off but I can tell you two or three things I have learned so far. about advanced displays.

- No one vendor is ready to release the OLED to replace current LCD's.
- CREE bright blue LED is actually purpleish as someone who got new Nokia phone commented on.
- PANL is not ready with blue organic display compound and is still working on an ideal green display organic compound. Sticking points seen to be half life of OLEDs for applications which require > 5000 hrs duty time.
- Luxell black background technology will probably be used in any high contrast application.
- Westaim's Ifire is spending more than any other company in getting inorganic LED projects into action. TDK just invested a sizable sum of money into Ifire as up front license payment which leads me to believe that they may actually start earnings income from their technology.
- EK patents are rapidly come to the end of their life and trying to pick the best of breed in next generation display companies is very difficult. My strategy is to invest a little in several companies and to add to my holdings it becomes apparent which companies will be best play.
