Optical component growth figures: upside.com "Sales of optical equipment is increasing by tens of billions of dollars over the next couple of years," says Tam Dell'Oro, founder of The Dell'Oro Group. She predicts 69 percent growth for optical networking equipment sales in the year 2000, compared with 15 percent growth for hubs, switches, and routers. While she admits that a 69 percent growth rate seems incredible, Dell'Oro claims her group has independent verification from component suppliers, manufacturers, and their customers -- the networking service providers who are gobbling up optical technology faster than manufacturers can make it.
