Terrence, where you are born and to whom are accidents of fate (or Fate). The earthquake that buries you under rubble or the flood that wipes out your house are accidents of fate. My father was a librarian working in his office when a mad gunman came into a Cal State library and opened fire. At the end of the shooting 7 were dead, 2 were wounded (my father among the wounded) -- that was an accident of fate -- he had never met the man who shot him. Sometimes, Terrence, you really don't see "it" coming, but it comes anyway. Your zealousness of reason seems to blind you to the fact that there ARE uncontrolable random occurences, which is one reason religion is so popular. Your "reason" really has very little to offer people troubled by such things.
