I am sorry about your Dad, and glad he survived. I do remember what you sent me.

"Accidents of fate" as you put it, are still reality. No government, no matter how stringent and concientious of rights, can protect one from a madman. But no mysticism need be involved in the solution to "why?"

By the same token, there are risks, known and unknown in living. Some can be avoided, others may not. If you build a house in an active earthquake area you may expect it to come tumbling down some day. If you are near a river, the chance is always there that it may flood. An earthquake can even shake you down where none shook before. We don't have a full understanding of plate tectonics yet. You can also be shaken down by a mugger at almost any time. As the population increases, so does the likelyhood of choas.

But choas itself is rational and to be expected. The rudiments of the so-called "Choas Theory" are fascinating. It does not deny reality, however, but may help to refine our conception of it.

People troubled by such things must face reality, not turn to "higher realities" which do not exist. Their is no fate, just statistical chance. Synchronicity is in the eye of the beholder.

Some uncontrollable random occurances are actually needful and helpful. You should rejoice in them!

Religion is popular because people who are lazy-minded want something simple to live by, even if it is wrong, or they are afraid of the unknown, or the are tribal seeking a collective, or they fear death, or they are controlling and they want to control others through a ministry, or a myriad of othe reasons that all appeal to the worst side of human nature or weakness.
