It doesn't seem very humane to me. It's like saying (in response to a stupid post) "Well, he really couldn't do any better, he's probably got a low IQ" It's insulting to psychoanalyze someone who hasn't asked for your opinion. I've used it as a technique and let me tell you it really pisses people off. As for your last line- IS there a right answer? When did you stop beating your wife? No matter what she says someone will interpret it as an admission. She's in denial, She doth protest too much, etc etc etc. As usual we are in alternate realities. Let's leave it at that.
