Where did you read that? Absolutely no one would buy an 8-way server if it gained only 5% in performance over a 4-way server. Perhaps you ought to read ZDNet's review of Profusion:

Running the Ziff-Davis Benchmark Operation's ServerBench benchmark to test performance, the ProLiant 8500 cranked out 3,739 tps (transactions per second). In comparison, running in a four-way configuration, the highest performance it yielded was 2,326 tps, which shows 61 percent scalability. Compared with a standard eight-way server, we saw an 83 percent performance improvement.
