Microsoft Slips, Cisco Skips to No. 1
3/27/00 2:22:27 PM

As shares of Microsoft slid lower in the face of protracted antitrust
proceedings, Cisco accelerated past the software giant into the
number one spot as world?s largest company based on market
value. Cisco?s market value swelled to 557 billion thanks to
today?s gain of 69 cents a share while Microsoft closed Monday
with a market cap of 542 billion.

On the day, Microsoft capsized 7.63 a share before coming to
rest at 104.06, as more than 55 million shares changed hands.
The Dow followed suit as a result, falling 86.92 points to close at
11,026.

Tech stocks took wing this morning, as the CNET Tech index was
up more than 50 points in the first hour and a half of trading. This
led the NASDAQ Composite to a great beginning that tapered off
by the end of the trading day. On what was the lowest volume day
of trading this year, at 1.3 billion shares, the Composite gave up
4.5 points to finish at 4958.
