AMD had to change their packaging in order to be compatible with Intel motherboards

I don't believe that Athlon makes a CPU that will fit on an Intel motherboard, or vice versa. I built some PCs back around December for family members, and looked at the market as best I could. Intel calls their mobo Slot 1 for Pentium IIIs, and Athlon calls theirs Slot A for the Athlon. If they are interchangeable, it would not be the first time I was fooled by the incredibly dense maze of CPU/mobo options.

PS They all bought AMD K6s because they were CHEAP at Fry's. Sorry, o great Intel. I still own shares in you, and a Pentium in MY box.
