Justin: Again I suggest we seriously consider Mike's analysis. Large powerful companies such as Intel can, and in fact are, different G&K classifications in different areas.

A gorilla in one field may be, and IMO often is, a king (or less) in another field or area. The interesting analysis is how close the other area is to the area in which the gorilla is a gorilla and therefore how realistic is it to expect the gorilla to extend its "gorillaness" to the new area.

I for one would very much appreciate the brainpower here to focus on this aspect of the GG.

I have suggested for example that while Microsoft is a desktop gorilla and a server software king or prince, it is nothing of the sort in wireless. The Q is the gorilla there.

IMO Intel is not, and has never been, a gorilla. To me Intel and JDSU are both extremely strongly entrenched and very very well and progressively managed kings.

When Gilder suggest that JDSU is the Intel of fiberoptics, he is being perceptive IMO. And remember his first book and his first area of examination and analysis was the "Microcosm" - where Intel is the poster child. He has now turned his emphasis and deep examination to the "Telecosm" where JDSU is his "Intel".

Just a few suggesting for discussion to keep Tekboy happy.

PS BTW I am not repeat not the "author" of Tekboy's "far out, far up" LEAP strategy, I did however suggest he look at that as a possibility for the Q, since in my view the Q faces explosive growth over the next year and a half, so the cheapest 2002 LEAPS he could buy might be worth the experiment. (And that was on the Q thread as I recall, not here)
