Thanks a lot.How do I generate income from these stocks?

I do not have a good experience with covered calls.
For a while I was writing calls on CSCO and SUNW and then I would close them little lower. By doing so I would generate little cash. But the one day I would write a call that would take a stock away from me.
So, I would close it at a loss. And the one time loss would be much bigger than the little gains I accumulated before.
So, my problem is: I see equity in my account in CSCO and SUNW and I want to generate income from it. Something I do wrong with covered calls or this writing covered calls strategy is really for the stock that is in downtrend?

How do I generate income from being long these stocks?
