Re: My understanding is that RAMBUS applied for these patents in 1990 and 1991 and that they withdrew from JEDEC in 1994 or 1995 after JEDEC wanted them to make their patents public and licenses free.

If Rambus patents were questionable in their validity, what are the chances that Rambus would have the majority of manufacturers ramping at this time? It is obvious that these manufacturers have to pay Rambus royalties and even more obvious that they would prefer not to. Knowing this, these companies would have railed against this standard if the patents were lacking in validity. Instead the are falling into line.
