Well the banks were really oversold a few weeks back, and M&A speculation is likely lending some support as well. Also bear in mind that funds-2s is still positively sloped (by 60 bps), while the spread curve for corporates, while relatively flat, remains positively sloped as well.

But there's no question that margins are under pressure, as is credit quality (see FNV -- even though I don't consider them to be a quality player, I expect we'll see more announcements like this in the months ahead).
