Selection of Manugistics NetWORKS Transport(TM) Solution Latest
In Ten-Year Business Relationship
ROCKVILLE, Md., March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Manugistics Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: MANU), the leading provider of eBusiness solutions that enable intelligent decisions across trading networks, today announced that Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation has selected Manugistics to improve the company's transportation network. Once implemented, the solution is expected to lower Brown & Williamson's transportation costs and improve customer service.
The selection of Manugistics NetWORKS Transport(TM) solution continues a 10-year business relationship between the two companies. Brown & Williamson utilizes Manugistics NetWORKS Demand(TM) and NetWORKS Supply(TM) solutions to help optimize demand/supply planning.
"As a long-standing client of Manugistics, Brown & Williamson has witnessed the evolution of linear supply chains into increasingly complex trading relationships," said Rich Bergmann, executive vice president of global sales and services at Manugistics. "For more than 10 years, Brown & Williamson has leveraged our solutions, our people and our company to make profitable decisions."
"We engaged in a very rigorous, seven-month-long audit/assessment process to determine improvement opportunities and select the vendor best able to provide a solution to our total transportation network needs," said Ron Dawson, Director of Strategic Distribution Supply Chain Programs & Systems at Brown & Williamson. "After implementing Manugistics' demand and supply planning, we realized quick return on investment, improved customer service, lower warehouse inventory levels and increased inventory turns. Those proven results combined with the capabilities of the Manugistics transportation solution convinced Brown & Williamson that Manugistics offered the best solution."
Manugistics will enable Brown & Williamson to simultaneously plan inbound, outbound and inter-facility shipments for increased visibility and better control of the transportation network. In addition, the company will have the ability to automatically tender loads on the Internet. Brown & Williamson will be able to track shipments, pay carriers, allocate freight costs, and run historical reports on carrier performance, order cycle time and on-time reliability for improved transportation planning. Automatic real-time notifications via facsimile, e-mail or pager will also help Brown & Williamson and its trading partners proactively solve transportation issues.
Brown & Williamson, the nation's third largest tobacco company, processes more than 300,000 shipments per year of both outbound finished goods and inbound raw materials. Currently, shipments to and from the company are managed independently and spread out among its finished goods order processing, purchasing, advertising materials, small package shipments and raw materials operations.
Manugistics' intelligent decision-making capabilities will allow Brown & Williamson to more effectively consolidate loads and freight through increased visibility into its transportation network. NetWORKS Transport will also integrate with other Manugistics eBusiness solutions implemented at the tobacco company, creating an end-to-end solution that improves the entire supply chain.
