Oil cartel ...

...Why doesnt' the DOJ advocate that the United States and Great Britain unite to control the Oil Cartel...

Same reason they can't control narcotics. North American demand for petroleum outstrips supply; hence, we import energy. We have two alternatives: Use less, or produce more. Increasing our own production reduces our dependence on imports, and has been the policy of choice. This 'Suck America Dry First' has the unpleasant side effect of reducing our long-term negotiating strength when dealing with OPEC.

Microsoft, in its negotiations with the DOJ, gives us a fine example of the importance of long-term strategic thinking. I don't know what Microsoft proposed, but I do know this: Bill Gates will have a more complete and accurate assessment of the ultimate outcome(s) of his proposal(s) than the DOJ and their army of lawyers, judges, bureaucrats, and consultants. It's only a matter of time before we'll be suffering abdominal pains resulting from excessive belly-laughs as we review today's events with the crystal clarity of hindsight.

Cheers, PW.
