Second question - I always hear about low odds of daytraders that "make it" - anyone know what approx percentage is...or what it is among their friends or associates?

Personally, I have no reason to doubt the quoted figures that roughly 80% of daytraders lose money. I think that's a good figure for beginning traders to realize, as it may help to keep them humble and cautious enough to succeed.
