Dave, I'm far from a "garden variety" programmer. In fact, I've done quite a bit of work with audio, as well as flash memory, and feel I'm quite qualified to comment on the technology - much more so than most people here.

I actually think your Lucent "techie" is a bit low on his estimate of what it would take to duplicate EDIG's work. One year and 100K? Good luck on getting a good programmer for a year for $100K. You need to nearly double the cost figure for a year of an experienced programmer's time. And I'd put the total effort required at 2 to 5 man-years. So, perhaps $1M in expense. It could probably be done in only 6 months, though.

$1.5B market cap for something that can be duplicated for $1M? What kind of madness is this?

You are absolutely right about the time-to-market advantage. I have stated several times that EDIG will almost certainly get some business from comapnies that want to reduce time-to-market. On the other hand, I expect those companies to eventually write their own software in order to reduce costs. They WILL re-invent the wheel, if it will save them even 1 penny per unit.
