Bob, you are confusing different issues.

We were talking about flash memory file management.

The claim was made that everybody would need MicroOS for it's flash memory file management capability. I debunked that claim.

BTW, the players that I mentioned DON'T do transcoding. They are MP3 players. Period. They are first-generation.

Newer players will include multiple codecs/DRMs. In fact, Creative has already announced a product that will have downloadable multiple codecs and DRMs.

You really have to stop confusing issues. I notice that you keep saying "it is patented" without saying WHAT is patented. Do you even know?

While EDIG has some patents, most are related to flash file management, and none cover the concept of having multiple codecs/DRMS, which, IMO, is not patentable because it is obvious on it's face.

Note that the rediculous claim that "everybody" (not just audio players) is going to need EDIG flash file managment software is key to the fantasy game being played here. The music player business itself is simply not large enough to justify EDIG's market capitalization, so it's necessary to invent a larger market to justify it.
