Largest Latin American Network Operator to Provide Wireless Internet Services To Mexican Subscribers
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Phone.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: PHCM - news), a leading provider of mobile Internet software, applications, and services, today announced that Telcel (Radiomovil Dipsa, S.A. de C.V.), the largest network operator in Mexico, has licensed the Phone.com(TM) Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-compatible UP.Link(TM) Server Suite 4.1. Under the terms of the agreement, Telcel will use Phone.com's UP.Link Server to provide wireless Internet access to its subscriber base in Mexico, reported of 5.2 million users at December 1999.

Telcel will use the UP.Link server and Internet-ready mobile phones to provide wireless Internet services to subscribers throughout Mexico. Utilizing their nationwide CDPD packet enabled TDMA network, Telcel is expected to shortly begin commercial rollout -- offering the Internet-ready Nokia model 7160(TM) and Ericsson model R280 mobile phones.

Telcel's subscribers are expected to have access to a broad range of wireless services, including email and enhanced services such as financial, news and entertainment services. In addition, Telcel plans to provide localized content on entertainment, finance, sports, lottery, and airline information, as well as a companion Web site for subscribers to manage their accounts.
