The Max-Pain number is fairly easy to calculate. You can just load open interest to your Excel spreadsheet and use the solver add-in.

Thanks...I wasn't thinking thru what the term MaxPain meant...maximum pain to max nos of investors. I took it to mean that it was the number that best reflected the ratio of calls to puts.

Appreciate the explanation.
