BYIT: Update on Web site additions
I thought I'd take this opportunity to update all on how products and manufacturers are added to the web site.
According to Dean Barnes, VP of Sales at HHD, the list of manufacturers under the heading "Preview February brand list" is in fact a CURRENT list of all manufacturers (alphabetically listed) which HHD can NOW purchase products from. This is a master list of manufacturers which includes those already listed under the heading "Brands/Manufacturers." The heading will be changed to better reflect this fact. In other words, any member can now call to receive price quotes for products from these approximately 500 manufacturers/brands.
Also, a member can ask for a price quote for a product from any manufacturer not on this list as well and HHD will do its best to get a quote for a specific product.
Actual products are added to the site through two means: when a customer purchases a specific product, that product is then added to the site; secondly, approximately 200 products (in most cases with photos) are being added to the site daily, taken from a company's catalogue and scanned in or electronically acquired from the manufacturer's own site. Until recently, this process has gone slowly, but the expectation is that more than 500 new product listings will be added daily within a few weeks.
Members and others should also understand that while they may in fact be able to purchase a product from a particular manufacturer not on the HHD list, sometimes that manufacturer will not allow their products to be listed at the HHD site for their own reasons. HHD acting as agent for its members may still purchase such such products at advantageous pricing.
Alan Bell, CIO at HHD, and Dean Barnes informed us that in the near future three developments will expand the site's listings: with the appropriate software and manufacturer digitization, HHD will be able to supply price quotes for products not yet listed on the site in "almost" real time; a form will be added to the site for members to request multiple product price quotes through email; new hiring by HHD will greatly increase the listing of product catalogues from hundreds of manufacturers/brands.
One last note: Alan says that the product request form mentioned above is now in final beta testing and should appear on the web site in a few days. In the "Store Directory" side frame which lists Product Categories, Brands/Manufacturers, and Sales, a new listing will be "Product Price Request" which will take you to a form.
