HI Michael,
I have to disagree with this. Of course I was a CPS worker and can't be too objective, but I don't believe you will find a significantly higher incidence of abused people choosing this particular field than another and while someone could certainly have a personal vendetta or agenda, I think it's a leap to dismantle an entire agency based on that theory.
You'll have to find some research on that one for me!
I was not abused, nor raped, and I like men The people I worked with for the most part were fair and reasonable, and were careful not to trample parental rights, but the welfare of the child was the priority.
In any people-related field you will find variations on this problem--you have police brutality, medical malpractice, miscarriages of justice. There are disturbed personalities all around us, but when they are directly involved with people, the so-called "caring" professions, it's just a whole lot more noticeable when things go wrong.

Turning a case over to the police, who are not trained or educated at all in the field, makes no sense to me. Often they are the first investigating officers who then call in CPS. They have as many preconceived ideas and dysfunctional childhoods as anyone else, and would no doubt make their own lousy calls. I don't know of any way you'll get away from that type of problem when dealing with the dark side of humanity.

Frankly I would rather protect a child than a parent and while I absolutely agree with you that there have been terrible errors made, I also believe that many children have been saved. The system is an imperfect one.
