CPQ down 4 of the last 5 trading days. In one short week we have dropped 14%. Sure we'll go back up a few points and then back down again. And this roller-coaster will continue until institutional ownership starts reversing direction and increases from the current 41.7%! Institutional purchasing will not increase until this management delivers. Despite the management cheerleaders on this thread it is the institutions that must start cheering. Cheerleaders on this thread don't count. Institutions count! And therefore, whether the protectors of management on this thread are right or wrong is entirely irrelevant. So lets looks at the evidence of management's progress or lack thereof. IMHO, it is mixed at best. Salary reductions have not occured in any meaningful way. Yet, profitability seems to be on the rise. Business enterprise division is still loosing money. But at a declining rate which suggests a turnaround in this segment is still a work in progress. Direct sales efforts are apparently improving but cpq acknowledges that it will never have a direct model identical to that of dell. A new cfo has finally been hired albeit about a year after the resignation of em. And I could continue. In a nutshell - for every point evidencing progress there is another point evidencing lack of progress or inaction. It is these negative points relating to management that is the focus of institutions. In conclusion, there is plenty of evidence to go either way on cpq at this time. And therein lies the problem.
